LaLaKids

LaLaKids is the natural progression of LaLaLittleKids, a method created by founder, musician, educator and mum Genevieve Shaw.

The songs are geared towards older children, using more sophsticated language and concepts, but with the same core idea - catchy and engaging songs that will stick in kids' minds so they learn English spontaneously.

Core library:

Hey, how's it going?  - for 9-11 year olds

Tip:

  • Repeat the song at the start of several lessons so students feel confident. For older children, one term is sufficient. For younger children you can use it for the whole school year, or until you sense they want a change.

  • Encourage creativity with actions — it makes the greetings easier to remember.

  • Model the informal responses often so students naturally use them in conversation.

Step-by-Step Activity

1. Introduce the idea

Explain that there are many ways to say “hello, how are you?”

Tell students that teenagers often use more informal greetings.

2. Brainstorm together

Ask: “Do you know any informal ways to say hello?”

Elicit and write their ideas on the board.

3. Set up the song

Explain that they will hear a song with teen-style greetings and slang.

Let them know they should listen for familiar words.

4. First listening

Play the audio (without the video).

Ask students to write down or call out any words or expressions they recognize.

5. Vocabulary check

Go over what they heard.

Write the new expressions on the board.

6. Visual support (future lessons)

Show students the images connected to the song.

7. Add movement

Ask students to invent their own actions for different lines in the song.

8. Conversation practice

Start using the language in real class interactions.

Example:
Teacher: “Hey, how’s it going? What have you been up to?”

  • Possible student responses:

“Not a lot, really.”

“This and that, this and that.”

“School and home.”

“I’m looking forward to the weekend.”

9. Game variation: Simon Says with Lyrics

Play Simon Says using the lyrics and actions from the song.

  • Students must say the lyric and do the action at the same time.

  • Anyone who does the action without saying the lyric (or vice versa) is “out.”

  • To add more fun, the last student to follow the instruction can also be eliminated.

  • Continue until there’s a winner — or reset and play again.
